Edward Wilson Primary School, Westminster
Aerial 2008
Year 3: Class 3HW and 3GT
Edward Wilson Primary School explored myths and storytelling. Focusing on William Blake's works on paper such as The Good and Evil Angels as well as The Deluge by Francis Danby, they created character profiles, riddles and illustrated poems. Looking at maps and aerial photography sparked ideas about flight. Their final artwork was a collaborative winged creature made of wire, willow and clay, draped paper and metal, which were stamped and stencilled with words.
Plaster cast relief maps provided the setting for the winged figure. This suitably mysterious and varied landscape was painted blue and framed in silver leaf.

"If feel that [the VerbalEyes project] has created a good deal of excitement and enthusiasm in the children in year 3 for visiting the Tate and other galleries, talking confidently about ideas raised by Art, and most importantly, getting their hands dirty, and enjoying exploring their own ideas and creativity." Tracey Bush, Artist
Of the finished artwork; "It was really good. I think you sit on the chair and then it flies and you can go to different places. I want to go to the countryside because it's quiet and there's lots of fruit and vegetables there." Student
