Originally from the Basque region of South West France and trained as a musician, Isa is a composer for film, a song writer, a performer and a sound artist. Her practice is inter-disciplinary and music forms a crucial part of her sound art work. She uses sound, text and other media such as performance, video & photography as a way of expressing social and/or political issues and suggesting emotion and atmosphere. She often uses collaborative processes working with other artists, groups, individuals or organizations from many different backgrounds to generate works and ideas. A recent concern in her work has been the process of creation as a collective activity with non-specialists.
Recent projects include The human rights jukebox, an exploration of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and how it may be interpreted in everyday life, and And while London burns, a compelling collision of thriller, opera and a guided walk about climate change, incorporating London's 'Square Mile'.
Reflecting on the VerbalEyes project, Isa wrote:
"The children's input and ideas was very inspiring and refreshing. Their spontaneity and openness gave me an incentive to try out some new techniques and ideas."
