A Day at the Races 2006 and Avalanche! 2006

Year 5 students used William Powell Frith’s The Derby Day 1856-8 to develop Victorian characterisation and dialogue. They were assisted by writer Katherine May. They also explored the representation of rich and poor by making colourful hats with designer Valerio De Jesus Oliveira.

Year 6 students worked on Philip James De Loutherbourg’s An Avalanche in the Alps 1803. The young people worked with artist and theatre designer Veronika Seifert to create large boulders (displayed in the Octagon gallery on June 17 2006) and drawings. They worked with musician Roberto Ares Rio to create an audio track.
