St Margaret Clitherow RC Primary School
Balcony at Cambridge 2006 and French Coast with Fishermen 2006
Working with Ivon Hitchin’s Balcony at Cambridge 1929, Year 5 students examined views and framing devices around their classroom and in Greenwich Village and Park. In response to these explorations they created viewfinders that could be picked up and used, helping the viewer to think about what’s inside, outside and in-between.
In their playground, on the beach by the Thames and in Greenwich Park, Year 6 examined figures and landscapes in motion and recorded the traces that motion leaves behind. Using sun-sensitive fabric, they created a large sail in response to their own thoughts and feelings about the movement of the sea and sky. They were inspired by Richard Parkes Bonington’s French Coast with Fishermen, circa 1825.
Year 5 and 6 worked with Gethan Dick and Sophie Weeks.
