St Helen’s Primary School
Journey to the Ideas Factory 2006 and Explorers of the Future 2006
Year 4b students explored the idea of creativity by making crafts and props to take them to the Ideas Factory. As a part of this process, they made video diaries in which they expressed their hopes, fears and dreams. They also created long, narrative poems about a journey to the underworld, inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s Proserpine 1874 and Sir Stanley Spencer’s The Resurrection, Cookham 1924-7. They made masks that reveal the characters they met on their journeys and shape poems. They were inspired by works such as Nicholas Hilliard’s Queen Elizabeth I, circa 1575.
As Explorers of the Future, Year 4y students developed a large time machine. This was represented by a multimedia presentation of photographs and descriptions about what it might be like to live in a time machine. These futuristic visions were inspired by works such as Fernand Léger’s Keys (Composition) 1928 and Simon Patterson’s The Great Bear 1992.
Year 4 worked with writer Katherine May and artist Sarah Carne.
