Ideas Factory 2004-5

Welcome to the Tate Britain Ideas Factory, an innovative art and literacy project for children, sponsored by Tate & Lyle.

This site aims to provide information and ideas for teachers on how to use art works to develop literacy skills and also to celebrate the work done by Newham schools.

Ideas Factory focuses on the unique experience of engaging with original works of art as a springboard for developing language, reading and writing skills.

The project was developed by Tate Britain in partnership with primary schools from the London Borough of Newham and was supported by Tate & Lyle. Each year, artist educators from Tate Britain work collaboratively with primary teachers to develop creative strategies for delivering the National Literacy Strategy Framework.

Through a series of gallery and school-based workshops, primary school pupils explore the Tate Collection at Tate Britain and develop their own responses to the works. Find out more about Ideas Factory
