Since Joseph Nicéphore Niépce made the first photograph of
his neighbour’s building in 1826, this mechanical art has transformed the
way we look at the world. To coincide with Tate Britain’s photographic
survey of Britain’s social history, Tate Etc. asked a selection of writers,
curators and photographers to reflect on some memorable images.
