Titianus Redivius; -or- The Seven Wise men consulting the new Venetian Oracle

Detail from: Titianus Redivivus; - or - The Seven-Wise-Men consulting the new Venetian Oracle, 1797. The British Museum

Rising up from beneath the paving stones in the left foreground is the ex-President of the Royal Academy, Sir Joshua Reynolds, who had died a few years before this print was published. However, Reynolds's biographer, Edward Malone, asserted that Reynolds would have been an enthusiastic supporter of Miss Provis had he been alive to meet her. He carries an ear trumpet in his right hand, a reference to the deafness which troubled him in old age. He is draped in a shroud or winding sheet.
