John William Waterhouse
The Lady of Shalott 1888 Tate |
A popular poet with the Pre-Raphaelites, Lord Alfred Tennyson was a particular favourite of John William Waterhouse – whose painting The Lady of Shalott 1888 is the focus of this short talk. The painting depicts a beautiful woman, subjected to a fatal curse for daring to look at Sir Lancelot, as she sails down the river towards her inescapable fate.
