Battle of Ideas: Museums for world peace?

Wednesday 21 October 2009, 18.30–21.00

Cultural diplomacy, the idea is that museums, galleries, and the arts can play a critical role in international relations, is in vogue. But can culture really ease international conflict and foster tolerance? Does assigning cultural institutions such a role risk undermining their more traditional goals, or even compromise their scholarly objectivity? Speakers include Andrea Rose, Director of Visual Arts at the British Council and Tate Britain Director Stephen Deuchar.
