VerbalEyes: finding a voice through art
Tate Britain's schools outreach project explored visual and verbal literacy with contemporary artists using the Tate Collection.
Over 400 children and their teachers from Newham and Westminster primary and secondary schools collaborated with artists on
an art and language project, including trips to Tate Britain and a celebratory family day. Continuing professional development
for school staff was a key part of the programme.
Sponsored by Tate & Lyle PLC
A ground-breaking learning programme for young people aged 15-25 years delivered by Tate and six museums and galleries across England between 2004 and 2011. Young people worked with artists to find innovative ways to engage with artworks in the National Collection at Tate and regional collections. Visual Dialogues enabled young people to explore and produce new interpretations of works of art creating new ways to enjoy and understand museum displays and collections. The programme developed local, national and international links with young people and artists, leading to dynamic interventions in galleries and online.
Jointly funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Department for Education (DfE), Strategic Commissioning.
