In response to the Francis Bacon retrospective Late at Tate Britain will transform the gallery with music, poetry, film, games and discussion. Explore Bacon's influences and interests; take a spin on the Roulette wheel, enjoy artists' films on modernity, take part in a 'Time-Slice' animation workshop, on and see a special Artprojx collaboration with David Blandy in the Auditorium.

For one night only room 9, home to Romantic British Painting, is transformed into a 1950s Soho gambling den with sonic backdrops by Condiment Junkie. Mixing sounds from the past, live recordings of the Roulette table and live jazz musicians the music will constantly evolve and interact with the mood of the room. Choose from Roulette, Blackjack, Craps and Texas Hold 'em Poker for your chance to win some Bacon themed prizes.

The Way of the Barefoot Lone Pilgrim: Samurai Story part I & II (Manasseh Dub Remix)

In the two Samurai Story films the Barefoot Lone Pilgrim, Blandy's alter ego, searches for soul and the true persona in an increasingly commercial culture.The soundtrack for Samurai Story part II has been remixed by legendary Dub producer Manasseh, re-sampling Blandy's samples to add a further cultural collision.

This video-collage focuses on the revolutionary and idiosyncratic aspects of Sound Systems in the 70s, such as the sculptural monumentality of the apparatus and the ambiguity between live performance and pre-recorded sound.

Alistair O'Neill, Senior Research Fellow at Central Saint Martins, author of London, After a Fashion, (Reaktion Books, 2007) will be examining the relationship between fashion and modernity in Bacon's London. Touching on Bacon's grooming habits, the application of make-up and household products both as a means of presenting himself and as a practice to generate textures in his painting.

Nexus presents… The Screaming Pope

Participatory animation event hosted by Nexus
Inspired by Bacon's papal portraits,Nexus presents an opportunity to create near three dimensional animated versions of the infamous painting using photographic portraits of Late at Tate visitors as a starting point. This sophisticated technique involves something similar to the 'Time-Slice' techniques used in films like The Matrix.

To commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the Modernist poet Ezra Pound's arrival in London in 1908, nine performers
will present poetry, music, and creative performances inspired by Pound's work. Including poets and performers Sarah Jane Barnes, James Byrne, Tony Dunn, Niall McDevitt, Philip Mulryne, Richard Parker, Robert Rehder, Lee Scrivner, and JL Williams.
