Performance and Documentation

Saturday 25 September 2004, 16.00
Part of British Art Week

Programme duration 87'
The development of video in the late 60s and early 70s meant that artists could document their work in a more immediate way than previously. A tradition of documentation was however, already established by artists of durational works focusing on the body and performance. Documentary films like James Scott’s Richard Hamilton include performance pieces that blurred the definitions of ‘documentary’ and ‘documentation.’ This programme of short films is being screened during British Art Week and as a complement to the Art and the 60s exhibition.
