Funding

The creation of Tate Britain would not have been possible without the support of the public and private sector. The £32.3 million fundraising target for the Centenary Development has been reached, which includes a grant of £18.75 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Private sector funding has included major donations from individuals, trusts and foundations, and from corporate bodies both within the UK and abroad. In 1997, Tate's centenary year, the extraordinary contribution of Sir Edwin and Lady Manton, who had previously been anonymous donors, was announced. Additional key contributions have come from Lord and Lady Sainsbury of Preston Candover (John and Anya Sainsbury), Sir Harry and Lady Djanogly and the Wolfson Foundation.
