Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
With the page turned horizontally, the view is south from the Stade in Folkestone, as tentatively suggested by Finberg,1 looking along the eastern pier. The harbour was subsequently much expanded, and the western arm flanking the narrow entrance beyond was radically remodelled. Folio 7 verso (D18854) is another view from nearby.
