With the page turned horizontally, the view is from the east end of the Stade in Folkestone, with the eastern pier at the centre, and cliffs towards Copt Point (see under the recto; D18853) beyond the cottages and steps to the left, which do not survive. The harbour was subsequently much expanded, and the western arm flanking its narrow entrance towards the right was extensively remodelled. Folio 8 verso (D18856) is another view from nearby.
