This cursory pencil sketch, rendered almost invisible against the dark grey wash, shows a river scene with a house, only just distinguishable, on the left. Veil-like streaks of chalk mimic cirrus clouds over the hills in the distance as well as the reflective surface of the water.
Technical notes:
There are black speckles running vertically from the upper register to the bottom towards the right.
