Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Turner has sketched Fort Bard in the Val d’Aosta, from upstream. The sketch is scrappy and was possibly snatched while he was on the move. Another, from almost exactly the same viewpoint (D29290; Turner Bequest CCXCIV 43), is much more composed.
