This is one of three sketches of Corra Castle, a ruin that stands on a cliff overlooking Corra Linn, the highest of the three Falls of Clyde about a mile to the south of New Lanark. From the top of the gorge we look towards the waterfall with the ruin to the right at the very top centre of the page. Further sketches of the castle are on folio 5 verso and 6 verso (D26268 and D26270), and the ruin can also be seen in further sketches of Corra Linn; see folio 2 verso (D26262). For more information about Turner’s visit to the waterfalls, and references to further sketches of them, see folio 1 verso (D26260).
