This was a left-hand page from the sketchbook. Gage’s illustration of this drawing as an instance of ‘that lush tract of Thames scenery’ including Maidenhead Bridge is somewhat misleading since it depicts Caversham; for Caversham views from this sketchbook see D05905; Turner Bequest XCV 1. The present sketch, slighter than D05905, is taken from further away from St Peter’s Church and lower down the slope towards the river. There are indications of a passing shower, as Hill observes.1
