Robert Bevan was brought up in the village of Cuckfield in Sussex on the family estate, Horsgate. The Gothic Revival style house, which was commissioned by his father Richard Bevan, can be seen in the background of this photograph. Bevan was a keen huntsman in his youth and here he poses alongside his brother Herbert Walter Bevan (1867–1927), the kennelman and their pack of dogs.
