This photograph depicts the artist Madeline Knox (1890–1975) holding a boxer dog. Knox ran an art school with Walter Sickert in 1909–10 and later married the director of the Carfax Gallery, Arthur Clifton (see TGA 8721/19 and TGA 8721/20). She was painted by Harold Gilman in c.1910–11 (Tate T13024).
