Patrons

The Tate Patrons scheme, which was relaunched in the early part of 2006 with three levels of giving, has proved very successful, with income up by 100% on the previous year. Tate now has over 300 Patrons giving a total of over £500,000 per year. Their generous support has helped Tate to acquire works of art and provide support towards exhibitions.

The American Patrons of Tate received a significant bequest from its founder, Sir Edwin Manton, and a grant from Wallis Annenberg and the Annenberg Foundation for exhibition and education programmes at Tate Britain. The American and Latin American Acquisition Committees, which helped acquire contemporary art for Tate, saw a significant increase in membership, and private American collectors continued to give important works of art to Tate. A total of $11.5 million was granted to Tate by the American Patrons during the year to support a variety of scholarship, conservation and acquisition projects.
