CONTEMPORARY ART

Back to Contemporary Art

Her Blood consists of three convex steel discs with polished, mirror-like surfaces. Two of the discs are silver in colour and the third - placed between them - is a vibrant, blood red. The work can be interpreted variously as the human heart reflecting God, as a metaphor for the soul, or as a lunar and feminine symbol. The three-part structure is a deliberate reference to the Holy Trinity in Christian theology. However, Kapoor's interest in female archetypes has resulted in an unconventional representation, since the title suggests that the central deity is a woman.
