Towards the Corner consists of a group of seven figures
on wooden benches; six are seated, while one stands. Each differs
in its individual expression and pose, yet it is typical of Juan
Muñoz's work that they appear identical in all other respects.
The work is displayed so that the viewer approaches from behind
the backs of the figures and is encouraged to walk into the corner
of the gallery and stand in front of the group. As the figures are
convulsed in silent laughter, the viewer appears to have become
the isolated object of their ridicule. In this way Muñoz
creates a reversal between art work and audience.
