Art Shorts

Art Shorts

Tate Media, working with Arts Council England and Tate Connects, is delighted to invite submissions to the second round of the Art Shorts film development programme.

We would like to partner with a selection of visual arts organisations in England to support the production of a series of short films exploring the work of each organisation.

We are looking to collaborate with developing or established arts organisations that employ innovative approaches to presenting contemporary visual arts to a broad public audience.

Whispering in the Leaves, a short film produced and directed by Forma Arts as part of last year's Art Shorts programme.

The programme

If you are selected, we will work in partnership with you to create a short film that will benefit your organisation. Tate will offer funding, expertise and resources to create the film, in addition to skills development opportunities that could enable you to produce your own films in the future. Tate Media will act as co-producer, helping you manage the financial, production and post-production processes.

You will need to bring a strong idea to the table, a clear interest in using film to illuminate or explore an aspect of your work, and a willingness to collaborate with us to realise this vision.

We are keen to support proposals which include clear thinking about distribution. This could be physical or online, and should both complement and enhance your existing audience engagement strategies. We would also like to profile your film on Tate Online and on Arts Council England’s website.

Submission and selection

We wish to support organisations that employ imaginative approaches to the film’s content or distribution. The film could involve a documentary or narrative about a particular artwork, artist or exhibition; incorporate live performance or installation; or focus on engaging a particular audience group. The film could include historical content, but should present a contemporary viewpoint.

Visit the Tate Channel to see some examples of Tate’s film and broadcast projects.

We will select organisations based on the ideas submitted and benefit to the organisation. If selected, we will fund your film, help you to develop and hone your ideas, source appropriate production personnel and provide you with guidance in filming and post production.
