Visual Artist
(b. London, England 1958)
Julian Opie studied at Goldsmiths College of Art between 1979 and 1982, and since
his first one man show in 1983, he has exhibited widely in Europe and the United
States. Drawing from influences as diverse as billboard signs, classical portraiture
and sculpture, to Japanese Manga comics and Herge's Adventures of Tintin,
Opie 'paints' using a variety of media and technologies, including computer animation,
vinyl, sound and LED displays, which enable him to make three-dimensional explorations
of his subjects.
